Richland Township, Allegheny County, is seeking qualified and skilled applicants to fill a full-time position of Public Works CDL Driver/Laborer that is represented by Union Teamsters Local No. 205. Richland Township is roughly 14 square miles with a population of roughly 12,000 people. This a Full-Time position, Monday- Friday, with callouts on weekends and holidays. The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the Township’s physical assets that support and enhance daily life in the Township. The qualified candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work to Township-owned facilities, vehicles, equipment, roads, stormwater system, sanitary sewer system, traffic signals, and road signs, as well as responsibility for winter maintenance on all public roads. The work entails working outside in variable and inclement weather conditions. The position also includes interaction with the public and other outside agencies. This position reports directly to the Public Works Director and works alongside a team of six in the department.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or its equivalent and valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and Commercial Driver’s License are required. Some direct experience in the principal duties listed herein is also required. Must be able to operate light equipment, snowplow, forklift, and other Township equipment as needed. The applicant should have the ability to read/write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in the English language and have a sound basic math skills. This position requires the ability to understand and interpret documents such as safety rules, maps, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The person in this position must be able to work various shifts and extended hours as necessary. The ideal candidate will already have a working knowledge of the operation of position-related maintenance equipment, and the ability to quickly comprehend instructions, learn new skills and work independently.

Environmental/Physiological Factors and Requirements of this Position. The Township places a premium on employee safety and satisfaction. Public Works employees are provided with all necessary safety, environmental and other equipment and tools to perform their duties. However, applicants should be aware that this position requires: - Heavy physical effort at frequent intervals and the ability to lift up to 75 pounds without assistance; - Continuous bending, lifting, stooping, climbing, and reaching to perform the essential functions of the position; - The ability and willingness to work in various, sometimes extreme weather conditions; - Tolerance for other environmental conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, limited ventilation, etc. associated with this type of work; and - The ability to tolerate high levels of noise associated with the operation of equipment and machinery.
